(March 11, 2025 – Toronto, ON) – We Are Busy Bodies and Black Sweat Records (Europe) announce the release of Yorkston / Jaycock / Langendorf, the collaborative album by James Yorkston, David A Jaycock, and Lina Langendorf. The album’s atmospheric soundscapes. Yorkston’s evocative nyckelharpa, Jaycock’s intricate instrumentation, and Langendorf’s expressive saxophone lines create a richly textured journey—both intimate and expansive. The album will be released on May 23, 2025. First single, ‘Tide‘ is out today on all streaming platforms.
In the words of James Yorkston, “this album came about due to my long friendship with David A Jaycock, and my more recent but equally valued friendship with Lina Langendorf. David I first met when he was a member of The Big Eyes Family Players, who I recorded an album with in 2009 (‘Folk Songs’, Domino Records). Out of the whole Big Eyes group, David was the guy I bonded with most. It was mostly our shared sense of humour, alongside a similar love of music from all over and whenever. Lina came into my thoughts in a similar way. With my Second Hand Orchestra albums (Domino Records), I found myself within an almost immediate circle of friends. Hand chosen by Karl-Jonas Winqvist, as a group we all got on very well, and the music we played was generous and open. That love is evident in those recordings. Within that project, there was a lot of laughter, and it was often provided by Lina, who is a most exploratory and giving musician and person. When David and I had laid down the initial tracks for this album, Lina was an obvious person to work with. I knew she’d approach the project with open ears. For me, this music is influenced by my time spent playing and listening to Hindustani classical music with Suhail Yusuf Khan, but it is equally influenced by the drones of Irish pipers such as Willie Clancy and Seamus Ennis. In there too are the German band Faust, whose track Knochentanz is a constant wonder, The Drummers of Burundi, Ry Cooder & Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Black Ark era Lee Perry, and so much else besides.”
